I am a birth, postpartum and end of life doula.

I will meet you where you are at, in whatever transition you are navigating.

Life is a beautiful series of hellos and goodbyes, some of these are welcomed with ease and others meet us with challenge and stretch. I believe that change and transition are best navigated with loving support and presence.

I am an old soul that loves living, learning, doing, being in nature and I live to find all the ways to express the deeply creative parts of myself.

I am in awe of the physical and astral spaces in which this work allows me to be.

I am a mother to two legendary kids. I have an amazingly supportive partner and big bad beautiful village.

I love to laugh, but I also love to go deep.

A person who can sit with you in both the lightness and the dark; and everything in between.

Hey, I’m Josie. The Lovespace Doula. Supporting, holding and informing people through their unique pregnancy and birth experience is my joy and my superpower.

I offer pregnancy, birth and postpartum support to women and birthing people in Melbourne and surrounds. The spectrum of these experiences is so wonderfully wide and varied, unique to each individual or family. My services and support is tailored to you, what you value and who you are.

I’m based in North West Melbourne, Victoria and servicing areas up to 30 minutes from me as a general rule. I come to our work together with a clean slate, ready to listen and hold, trust and believe, know and witness; to meet you where you are and walk beside you.

My philosophy is steeped in each person having sovereignty over their body and their experience and that part of that is being informed with as much or as little information you need to make decisions that align with you.

I believe that we deserve good care and support always, but never so much as when we are navigating big and beautiful transitions in life and at times of loss.

A person who thinks food is medicine and understands the value and power of human connection.

In 2023, I was grateful to be participating in two amazing mentorships.

The first is with Fiona Hallinan to learn the craft of Internal Pelvic Release Work.

This work enables a deep understanding of the pelvic space and how we can explore it in order to release areas of tension physically but also to grow our own knowledge and build a connection with this part of our bodies that is so very important in pregnancy, birth and beyond.

The second is to refine and grow my skills in birth debriefing with Lael Stone and Bernadette Lack through ‘The Art of Debriefing’. Unpacking both in preparation for and healing from birth is a powerful action that you can take in order to serve the essence of who you are in life and in birth.

Providing a space for you to be able to be heard, feelings acknowledged.. is an honour.

I am always learning, reading, absorbing the knowledge and wisdom of others and of people who have come before me, in order to give to the people I work with more deeply.

These ways of working will enable me to serve more women and birthing people in my community than I can through birth and postpartum support alone.

What’s a doula you ask?

I like to think of it as part fairy godmother, part badass, part lover, part joker, a lot of ears, a big shoulder, a lot cheerleader but totally all heart.

Proper definition reads something like “a non medical professional who supports people traditionally through pregnancy, birth and labour but can also support people in all of life’s transitions”. But doulas are everywhere and not just in birth, but in life and death too.
